Luxury defined... The AAA Five Diamond Award® is the most coveted designation within North America's hospitality industry. Recipients of this distinguished award must undergo a rigorous evaluation process focusing on management and staff; housekeeping and maintenance; exterior, grounds and public areas; room décor, ambience and amenities; bathrooms; and guest services. 2012 FACTS SHEET

• For 2012, 16 new establishments (Nine lodgings and seven restaurants) were added to the coveted Five Diamond Award® list; seven lodgings were removed.

• Of note among the 16 new additions for 2012 are first-ever Five Diamond establishments for Rhode Island and Antigua: The Ocean House in Watch Hill Rhode Island and Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort in Anigua.

• Three hotels have maintained the Five Diamond Rating for 36 consecutive years, since 1976 when the Diamond Ratings were first introduced for lodgings: The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Camelback Inn, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa, in Scottsdale, Ariz.; and The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.

• Four additional hotels have maintained the Five Diamond Rating for 26 or more consecutive years: Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia; The American Club in Kohler, Wisc.; The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta, Ga.; The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif.

• The only restaurant to maintain Five Diamond status for 24 consecutive years (since the Diamond Ratings were first applied to restaurants) is The Inn at Little Washington Dining Room in Washington, Va.

• States with the greatest number of Five Diamond Lodgings: California (19); Florida (11); Nevada (10); New York (8); Quintana Roo, Mexico (7), ; and Georgia (7).
